  1. Hello All

this is my first post and hopefully im going to be doing a lot of copying to vcd in the future

i have a lot of hi8 camcorder footage and i am hoping to covert it to pal for my parents (back in england as i now live in the usa)

the only thing is my camcorder is only hi8 so i have no way to transfer digital video the only thing i can come up with so far is maybe something like the usb capture devices and transfer that to my pc and then do the convertion

is this going to be ok? i know these devices dont have amazing quality but if i could get a idea if its going to be ok then i can go ahead and try and fing the best capture device or would i be better off just sending them away and paying to have them converted to pal vhs?

    any help is appreciated

    best wishes
    Adam

Digital 8 camcorders will export Video 8 and Hi 8 footage via DV-out. This is your best option, but you will need a new camcorder and a firewire card. This is how I exported my Video 8 material. I don't know the best options for analogue output, but I suspect usb options may not be fast enough for good quality.

i would suggest a firewire capture card if you can afford to spend a little more .
ADVC-100 Media Converter is an excellent solution ..

A firewire card would be a useful addition, and cost ~ £30/$50, but you still need a digital input, or something like Dazzle's DV bridge (which will allow analogue input through a firewire card). I presume the ADVC-100 Media Converter is a similar device?
