  1. i have been trying to view incomplete (eg. 23% MPEG or avi) movie files with windows media player, realone player, and quicktime player. none of the players will allow it. is this just not a possibility? all medial types have been selected properly.

  2. Try opening these files with virtualdub. for MPEG check the pop-up extended open options to select accept partial mpeg-streams. Virtualdub will then rebuild the file so that it is accessable. If you have only a small part of a big AVI-file it will take some time but it works. After rebuilding you can save the new file or use the preview option in Virtualdub.

I use this a lot just to check what i am actually downloading in Kazaa

    Good luck

You can usually watch partial mpegs no matter what, unless you are
currently downloading them. If you only got 23% AND you are NOT
currently downloading it just load up Windows Media Player and open
the video. I use Media Player 6.4 and it has opened all of my partial
    mpegs.

As far as avi's go, try DivFix from www.divx-digest.com

Copy the partial avi to another folder on your hard drive, run DivFix.
Open the COPY of the avi. Click on "Strip Index", then "Rebuild Index"

After the index rebuild is done just open the COPY of the avi in
Media Player and you should be able to watch what you have.

I say to copy the avi because if you run this DivFix on the original it
screws it up and you would have to start downloading it all over again.

    Goodluck!

so that answers why I've had to re-download about three 700MB+ files from WinMX due to errors on some of them after I've done the DivFix on the original file, man I didn't know this...I just downloaded a file last night thats over 750MB I remember using DivFix on that file somewhere along the 3% complete since I haven't viewed the whole file is it possible that it wasn't damaged? I hope not...

I want to just point out my method of playing a partially downloaded mpeg file, just right click on the mpeg file and select "copy" and then paste onto your desktop and double click on it....works for me all the time.
    later,
    alirio
