Hello
When I transfer the video from my DV camcorder (Panasonic nv-ds 15) to the PC via firewire, the transfered video is too dark in all programs (Premier, Windows movie maker etc). When I was using windows 98 SE I had solved this problem by turning up the brightness or gamma in my video card's settings (GeForce 2 MX/MX 400). But in winXP although the brightness is turning up in the desktop and screen, the window where the avi is beeing recorded stays the same. What can I do ? I playback the tape in TV and the video is OK. Only when it transfered in PC it is too dark. I also try to turn up the brightness of my camcorder's LCD screen but nothing. What can I do ? who can adjust the brightness ? Windows Media Player has itsown buttons, Premier doesn't. Plz help me , i have stoped a project becouse of this problem.
thanks

Hello
What I have done when I had that problem is loaded the video under VirtualDub, in VrtualDub you can use FILTERS and one of the filters is Brightness correction, you could adjust the brightness there & then resave the file see what happens. Also I am sure you are aware that if you are watching the file in the PC you can adjust the brightness under Media Player.

If apply the brightness effect the clip will be more bright (I think..) . The problem is that now, when i playback the clip from my camcorder in TV (teste in 3 different TVs) it looks fine. So If I apply brightness effect it will be very bright.
As you said, Windows Media Player has a brigtnes control. This is exactly what i want. A way to give more light in capture and play windows without having to render my clip. Premier doesn't have such an option and I have stoped my project becouse I can not edit such a dark avi files. In win98 SE turning up the birghtness or gamma from my video card's settings both capture and play windows become more bright. In winXP these settings give more light to whole screen but these windows aren't affected. Any idea ? (I don't know the virtualdub, should I download it ?)
plz help

if you are using the detonator drivers (dont know but other drivers should be the same) then you can use the overlay controls in the video control panel.
open media player or something that uses overlay. then open the video control panel and the overlay controls will no longer be greyed out. you can then adjust your overlay so it is bright enough. -

I use the detonatorXP drivers. What is the overlay controls you are talking about ? Do you mean the settings of video card in Color Correction window ? (brightness contrast gama & active color channel) ???? If you mean this, this is what i mean. By changing this settings both capture and play window do not beeing affected in Premier. If you mean somthing else let me know.. plz give details. thanks. -
sorry for the long wait, im not home much recently.
yes, that is what I mean, but... no, color controls are for the entire display. the overlay controls (in the same place) are only for video overlay only. -

You mean in Premier ? I can not find such a control. Plz give details, I really want this feature. I have stoped my project becouse of these dark avi files i can not edit. thanks -
I am not sure about Premier but I imagine it is somewhere as I have seen it in all the capture programs I have used. Normally under capture, then click video and there should be some setting selections. One will have brigtness as well as hue and such, all little sliders. It might be from the capture driver. I am using WDM drivers. I imagine all cards would have these adjustments as they are rather important.

I have looked everywhere in Premier and I didn't find something.(
My video card has brightness and gamma controls but do not affect the window where video is captured. I'm trying to finde a programm or a software (driver or whatever ..don't know) to adjust the brightness or gamma of the entire window where the movie is being captured. Any idea ? -

Thats not what I do.
Try Vitual Dub
Click capture avi
Click Video
Click Source
Click Device Settings
There are all the sliders for adjusting Brightness and other settings. If it is there it will be somewhere in Premiere
Have you tried the help menu and searched for brightness? Not only am I perfect but I'm Canadian too! -

Thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for all these days. Unfortutanetly there is no gamma control, but brightness is good enough for me. Also I would like to ask. Do this settings affect the video (avi file) itself (when I export it or only the way I watch it in the screen ? (I suppose the second) -
no it doesnt affect your recording at all, it only affects the overlay on the screen, or what you see.
