illegal DVD's possible??

Today while browsing through a local market i came across a stand selling DVD's of movies not yet in the country now this caught my eye and i bought 2 (scary movie 2 and final fantasy)now they were about the price of the DVD's u buy in the shops but they were NEW!
Now my question is that i was wondering is it possible i bought illegal DVD's it got me thinkin because the quality on my PC looks questionable (its alot better than SVCD's and VCD's but not what i'd expect from a DVD)they are written onto DVD disks (4 gig ones) and DVD decrypter picks up 4 VOB files!
They are packaged in what looks 2 be original packaging perfectly boxed + printed with the "seal of authenticity"the DVD's themselves look to be printed on (they have pictures on the actual disk)!
They contain no special features (final fantasy has the trailer and scary movie 2 had nothing)!
They both have 5.1 and DTS soundtracks!
On scary movie 2 the color seems off and quite bright!i havent seen it on cinema so im not sure if this is how its made or not!
Final fantasy on my PC appears grainy in some places!
Now i thought to have the original DVD and convert it into SVCD format and then into VOB format with the 5.1 and DTS soundtracks would be hell of a difficult so am i imagining things or r these ripped DVD's?

You aren't imagining things...you saw bootleg DVDs. I have a couple bought by a friend who went to the Philippines. Normally they are just what you already find on the net, irc, and ftp sites just pressed onto a commercial DVD. The quality is a lot of the times terrible too.
