  1. I have a problem with a movie I am trying to convert to VCD.

I rip the sound from the AVI file with VirtualDub and save it as a .Wav file.
Then I rename it to AC3 and load it into HeadAC3he to convert it to a Wav file again as needed.

HeadAC3he reports an error on the file when I am halfway through it.

Is there any way I can fix this problem?

There are no audio problem in the problem when watched as AVI and I have 8 others in this series, but this movie is the only one where an error is reported by HeadAC3he.

Thing is, as soon as I pick the .ac3 files as source, HeadAC3he notes that there is a problem with them, but it accepts all the other .ac3 files for the other movies and converts them just fine.

Is there a tool that can check and possibly fix problems in audio files?

The only way I've been able to fix these files that headac3he doesn't like is with the program AC3FIX. Its a dos line program so you need to be familiar with the CD command.

The easiest way to use it is to put AC3FIX and its .dll file in the same directory you have your bad .ac3 file and then go to dos (from the windows toolbar press the start button - run - type in "command" in the run dialouge box and press enter) and CD to the directory you have the ac3 file in.

Once you're there, type in ac3fix filename.ac3 newfilename.ac3 (filename.ac3 and newfilename.ac3 refer to the actual name of the ac3 file you're trying to repair. its best to rename the bad AC3 file to something short and simple, such as new.ac3 and fixed.ac3 so you dont have to type in a huge file name)

This will scan the file and fix any corrupt frames it finds and output a new fixed file. I've only used this tool three or four times but each time it fixed the file enough for headac3he to convert, and didn't cause any audio synch issues.

    Hope this helps.
