  1. Hi all, first time here...

I have been trying to burn an SVCD using Nero 5.5.8.2 and I am having the following problems:
    1. I click on Write when is time to burn, the program starts encoding and it takes upwards of 1 1/2 hours to do so...
    2. When it finishes encoding (finally) it tells me that my file does not fit into the media provided, even though Nero is supposed to fit it in the CD.

I thought the problem had to do with my new burner (Verbatim 321240AL), but when I burn VCD's or music CD's it all goes well. In fact, the program came with my burner and is registered, so there should be no problems there.
I went ahead and used TMPGENC and it also begins encoding and takes a hell of a long time. I have not let it finish, since my best friend burns SVCD's in less than 10 minutes (encoding included), and I gave up once I heard him say this.

Can anyone tell me if they are going thru the same thing???
    How did you resolve it???

    Thanks...

  2. With my old system (P166mmx) it took TPMGEnc 36 hours to encode a SVCD. My new system (AMD XP1700) does it in 45 minutes. I don't think there is anyone out there with a P166 (like I had till last month) anymore, or is there?

I use TMPGEnc to encode and Nero to burn.

  3. I dont know what a hell of a long time for you is, but I remember on my 500 mhz PC it took a day and a half to encode a VCD and a few days for SVCD, now on my Sony VAIO it takes about 2 or 3 hours depending on the file. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I do not think you will encode a full length(90 mins) movie on SVCD in under an hour. I usually encode while I sleep. TMPEG is the fastest and best encoder I have used. I woukld not suggest using Nero's encoder for files larger than 50 MB.
You're not really going into an astroid field are you?!?
They'd have to be crazy to follow me!

  4. My machine does one cd of a two svcd movie in about 45 minutes. So that's 1.5 hours to encode a movie.

Burning a VCD takes about 10 min. Encoding a VCD depends are the speed of your CPU and any filters that you use. I would not recommend usseing Nero to encode, I would use TMPGEnc. It takes about about 2 hours to do a movie. I use toolame as the audio encoder. Which takes about 15min to do. I am running an encode right now that is taking 59 hrs to do, because I am using heavy noise reduction on it. This times are for DVD rips. Doing DivX takes a little less time. This is based on an AMD XP 2000+.
