i think i have tried everything. iput dvd2 and plugin in all the smae folder and unchecked direct show. i am frustrated

what kind of file and file extension are you trying to open ??

I haven't tried 2.55, I use 2.52 mostly. & yes alk's question would help us help you. Have you installed the vfapi plugin. I don't think you should uncheck the Direct Show. See http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems for problems. Sorry I can't currently help more, but I'm at work now, maybe I'll have some time at home to lend more of a hand.

trying to open d2v and ac3 just as i have been doing. everything is there i have been using it for a while and then download 2.55 and everything went to h*** . does anyone know where i can get the olderversion?

check if exist in TMPGEnc Options- Environmental- VFAPI
the DVD2AVI Proyect File Reader.

or try download fron Tools section (at left)
the VFAPI Reader and convert (just in 3 seconds) the file d2v to avi
and try to open it.
