This has happened to me many times, including just now. After successfully downloading an AVI fle, it will open with the audio OK, but the fle "looks" for a codec, then comes back with a codec download error message So, I get a file with no video. Am I doing something wrong? Disappointing after waiting many hours for a download to finish.

I know that I don't have the right codec but figuring out which codec will work is confusing. I don't want to download a lot of codecs not needed in an attempt to figure out which one wll work.

Open the file with Virtual Dub and look at File Information and it be in there.
