  1. Have you used both VS6 and MSpro? If so please let me know how they compare on your system...

I have run both VS6 and MS6.5 (dir cut) on my machine... In "all" cases my source files are 720x480, high bit rate (>7,000kbps), I only mpeg 2. In VS I can play clips in the preview window (to set trim points etc) while the slider bar and audio stay in sync, all is very smooth and nice and plays at full speed with ~50% CPU. If I drag the time line slider around video delay is very little, same for entering specific time/frame info... the program jumps up or back with little delay.

Unfortunately I wanted some of the advanced features of MSpro... With that program clips play back with skipped frames, audio sync trouble etc and 100% CPU... It is so bad (for me) that it is nearly impossible to do basic clip editing with the program. Is this a function of the program or do I have an installation/driver problem???

As you may know VS has a big clip window... in MSpro I have set the clip window very small (low pixel count) and very large (matching source settings) and in between... still unacceptably slow!

I hope one of you will have found that this behavior can be "fixed" and is not a "feature" of MSpro. If so, please post!

I should clarify that I'm not talking about rendering previews or doing effects etc... I'm simply playing the source file to make cuts etc.

BTW I have clipped the noted files with VS6, exported the clips with the same file settings, then used the trimmed clips in MSpro to make some nice final movies in VCD, SVCD, and DVD formats... I'm reasonably happy with all that and don't mind the 7 hrs to encode 40 min of SVCD from the above format.

  2. I had a similar prob...... preview in MSpro were skipping and stuttering..... until I made a defrag (which has to be done when you are editing anyway) + I added a link into my registry.. Check at their site FAQ about MS6.5 pro troubleshooting......
Keep the preview window small and check the "instant replay"......

    hope it helps....
