Ulead Video Studio 10 avi help

I can't get Ulead to accept avi files for some reason.

Are you sure they are AVI files???
Or are they "something else"....??

The extension is .avi. I was able to get the files into Ulead but it won't let me view the video and only the audio of it is playing.

Open the avi file sin g-spot and find out what's in them

how is that really gonna help? Its an avi file and I can't get the video to work in Ulead.

I opened it in Gspot it has the video codec "dvsd" is listed and it says the codec isn't installed so I'll try to get that. Sorry for being rude earlier, I was just frustrated.

"DVSD" is standard DV video, but according to FourCC.org "dvsd" is DV generated by a particular firewire card, and needs the card present to be used. This seems odd. Can you confirm that the dvsd is lower case and not upper case ?

XP ships with the microsoft DV codec as standard, so you should be able to read and write standard DV through any DirectShow aware software. Something screwy is going on with your system.

DV format usually comes from a camcorder or other DV source and is large (~13GB/hour). Does this seem like what you have?

Video Studio 10 is happy to accept DV format.

VS10 will take the avi files into it but the videos will be black and only the audio is playing...

What else does g-spot say about the video - framerates/resolutions etc.

Where did the video come from ?

Try loading it into Windows Movie Maker , to see if its only Video Studio .

Thats a DV-AVI clip, note that the sound track is blank.

Another question - do you have FFDShow installed ?

yes I do have FFDShow installed.
I also tried Windows Movie Maker and it says "The file cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."
