    Hi everyone!

Apologies if this is a dupe, but I searched many thread and didn't find anything talking about this issue.

Now, I know USB-Live2 isn't the greatest, but that isn't what I'm here to discuss 😅

I recently upgraded my setup from a LG C900 to a JVC H-S7600EU. However I noticed that I can't view both VCR OSD through the capture card's preview.

It just shows a glitched freezed frame of the OSD blue screen until I get a tape playing, like if there was no signal.

Are there any tweaks or is it just the card that works this way?

I'm considering adding my Samsung DVD-VRXXX in the middle, just to get a clean signal with no dropouts (or at least black video during the worst) and to use the VCR OSD

Let me guess: Virtual Dub. Try AmarecTV. My guide here.

Nike: just do it. In my experience, the Live2 is slightly more prone to dropouts/flashing without a stabiliser. I can't vouch for the Samsung as a stabiliser though. Panasonic, Pioneer and Sony are the go-tos for non-TBC stabilisation; have a read of this post.

False. It is an excellent capture card.

Normal. OSD from VCR is not a standard analog signal.

Actually, Hauppauge Capture 😂 I tried AmarecTV for a quick dirty test, but it also dropped frames like crazy, unfortunately.

Yeah, I've been using the Samsung combo for a long time on another setup. It's not a TBC at all, but it sure cleans the output signal perfectly. The only downside is that, during heavy dropouts or lack of stabilization, it just sorts to a black screen.

OK, you got me. I don't know where that came from. It's actually very good, but you have to have a pretty stable signal. You can't just directly capture your VCR, has it doesn't correct the signal and the comb filter for composite it's not that great.

    Really? What's it like, then?

Like all the other cards (more or less). A nice video starts from the capture of a Y/C interlaced and time base corrected signal, losslessly converted to YUV4:2:2 720x576 (x480).

Something else, who cares. We do not capture the Menus/OSD from a VCR. For setting up a capture you need a monitor/TV in parallel anyhow, not just to check the menus of the VCR, but also to monitor that everything is going right.

Something's ****-eyed somewhere. Try your other VCR with your DVD to stabilise.

    Do all tapes do this?

Are you capturing to lossless? I don't know but I wouldn't have thought Hauppauge Capture would allow a lossless capture, which is less strain on the system (CPU) and therefore less likelihood of dropped frames.

Nah, the tapes are good. The frames drop when there's no signal or something was taped over. Well, actually I have this particular tape where most of it slightly jumps up and down and drops frames.

But, yeah, I've been testing and adding a passthrough fixes the problems. Now I just have to find a good SCART cable, because the one I have has a lot of unsynced horizontal ghosting! Or maybe another S-Video cable and connect the VCR to the DVD with it...

Hauppauge Capture doesn't capture lossless, it captures MPEG-2, which (and I know it might be controversial) is fine for me. I set it at 9000 kbps, though
