    Hello all.

I have started converting some VHS tapes digitally and have recently started having an audio issue with tapes. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I am getting a garbled sound on audio that is more noticeable on music and high pitched sounds. I have another VHS and I am not having the same issues with the audio, but that particular unit does not display the video as well.

I have ran a tape cleaner through it, but it didn't help. That said, I'm not sure how old the cleaner is and how many times it has been used. I have ordered another, but I figured I would ask on here at the same time to get some input on what you all think it might be, and what I can do or check to maybe get it resolved.

I have uploaded a small clip where you can hear what I am describing. If for some reason you can't access it, I also uploaded it to YT.

    Thanks all! Much appreciated.

Sounds like this is linear audio (not HiFi), and it seems muffled, so I would start by manually cleaning the linear audio head first.

Cleaning the linear audio head is pretty easy. You can use a Q-Tip for this one and alcohol.

That was exactly it. I took the unit apart and cleaned the linear audio head like you suggested. Working perfectly now.

    Thanks for the info!
