  4. There are probably simpler ways but here is what I've done. I've taped shows off TV, then fed that to my capture card creating multiple AVI files (cutting out the commercials ). Then I use TMPGEnc to convert each AVI file into MPG files. Then again using TMPGEnc I simply join all the separate files into one MPG file (VCD format). This can be done whether the AVI files are from one show or multiple.

You are welcome to try Clip! - my own AVI editor. It is a quick way of cutting and joining AVI files.

    Download it from http://www.billh.demon.co.uk
following the video editing link - its free!

Like Virtual Dub, Clip! will only join files that are of the same format. If you need to join two files of differing formats, then you will need to re-encode one of them first to be the same as the other. You should be able to do the re-encoding with Virtual Dub.

Once all files are the same format, then either Clip! or Virtual Dub should be able to assemble them for you.

The critical parameters include frame size, codecs, audio parameters.

If this doesn't work, then you probably need a full video editor, like VideoWave, MediaStudio, Premiere etc. This will automatically re-encode the video for you behind the scenes!

There is a help file with the program, which explains the features of the program, and how to use it.

Basically - you need to do the following:
In the Files panel, click on Add.
Browse to one of your files and select 'Open'.
Clip! should open the file and display it in the preview window.

You then need to create a clip from the file, as follows:
Set the In and Out points by dragging the markers on the play bar just above the preview window.
(Note: When you load a file by default the whole file is selected)
Click on the Add button in the Clips panel.

Add your second file by clicking on the Add button in the files panel.

Select and Add a clip in the same way as you did for the first clip.

Click on the Produce button and wait.

    Thats it!

If you get a 'Files incompatible' message when you add the second file, then you will need to Virtual Dub or something elese to convert the second file to the same format.

Clip! allows you to join an unlimited number of files and clips. If things get very complicated, then it is a good idea to save your work as a clip project from time to time in case your computer crashes!

    Best of luck.

    VisiBill.
