  1. Dear forum,

I am searching for hours now so I decided to bother you with a post.

I've got several AVCHD-files (.MTS). I want to paste them together and add an .mp3 as sound. In the end I want to upload the whole thing on youtube-HD.

I already realized that VirtualDub can only edit .AVI-containers. With the help of ffdshow I am now able to open the .mts files and to save them as .AVI. At this point of my enterprise I realized that the ffdshow video encoder offers me an unmanageable choice of possible Decoders and four possible encoders (MPJEG; HuffYUV (FFmpeg variant); FFV1; DV; Uncompressed).

To clip my files together I need to use the "Append AVI-segment"-option which only works when the AVI-File is processed the right way. My first question: How do I have to compress my files for that to happen without problems.

The next step would be to clip the scenes together, to make some small cuts and to put in the .mp3. How do I have to compress my finalized file so that it is ...:
    a) either uploadable to youtube directly -- in accordance with their recommended upload encoding settings https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en
or b) convertible to the needed Youtube-Standard with VLC (VLC offers an option to directly convert to youtube-HD standards).

Thank you very much for your patience!

  2. try VirtualDub2 that might load your MTS and append other files to it
