  1. Hi! I'm trying to make my first ever DVD and I have 5 problems/questions:

    1. Premiere created two separate audio and video files for DVD (m2v ac3). But DVDStyler only looks for single files! So how are you supposed you tell DVDStyler that these two files are your video?

    2. If I try just bringing in the m2v video file, and try to burn that, I get the error: Error transcoding of [file].m2v

    3. How do I make sure DVDStyler won't re-encode my video? (It's already been encoded perfectly for DVD in Premiere.) I see no options concerning this.

    4. I've made an animated menu background (it's an mp4 video from Photoshop). I placed that video in the "backgrounds" folder but it doesn't appear on the list?

    5. I notice the default settings in Premiere was "progressive". Surely interlaced is standard? Will progressive video play on most DVD players?

(For reference: I used in Premiere's standard MPEG2-DVD settings for 720x576 PAL video. I also set the audio to Dolby Digital.)

  2. You can export muxed streams from Premiere or DVDStyler can use elemental streams.

    From their manual:
Creating a title with elemental streams
Using elemental streams is very similar to using regular MPEG clips on the timeline. You simply drag the components onto the timeline as you would with MPEG clips (titles).
    1. Start a new project and create whatever menus you care to include.
    2. Single-left-click on the “Directories” tab (upper left-hand panel) to display the directory tree.
    3. Navigate to the directory that contains your video clips (titles).
    4. Left-clip-hold-drag the desired video elemental component onto the timeline. The video component will typically have an “.m2v “file extension.
    5. Left-clip-hold-drag the desired audio elemental component onto the timeline. The audio component will typically have an “.mpa “file extension.
    6. The video and audio component names will be displayed on the information bar below the timeline when the mouse pointer is placed overtop of its icon. It is also displayed on the properties dialog box of the title (right-click on icon -> select properties).
    7. Continue to add video/audio or MPEG clips as desired.

Menu background must be muxed mpeg2 files.

Sounds like you may want to spend a little more time examining the export settings in Premiere.

  3. So how are you supposed you tell DVDStyler that these two files are your video?
Besides drag-drop you can use the "Plus" icon to add audio/subtitles.

How do I make sure DVDStyler won't re-encode my video?
DVDStyler will use "Copy" as shown in attached image

Menu background must be muxed mpeg2 files.
DVDStyler will encode videofiles if needed.

  4. Thank you both so much Smrpix and Videobruger

Perfect answers, you have really helped!

Though I'm still not sure about progressive. Would you use progressive for a DVD? The original videos I'm working with are progressive, but standard DVD is interlaced right, so why does Premiere's DVD output default to progressive when DVD players don't play progressive?
