  1. Hello, I have been having immense problems trying to get a small 2 minute video to render in Sony Vegas Pro 12. I had shot video from my iPhone and imported it. I also added footage screen captured using fraps on my computer. The iPhone footage is the only footage that turns black both in the preview window and in rendering the video. The fraps footage is fine and isn't affected in the preview or the render... I've tried many different things from many forums and videos all of which haven't really helped...

Does anyone know what is going on? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  2. if you want to upload a sample clip we can take a look. But really, iPhone video straight out of the phone, despite its inherent shortcomings, has never been a problem for Vegas going back a number of versions.

My bet is this will prove to be a display adapter or codec issue.

  3. Thanks for the reply, I fixed the issue shortly after I posted... Pretty silly actually, turns out I just needed an older version of quicktime to work with the .mov files from the iphone.

Interesting. I was having the same issue with VegasPro12 and iPhone5 video. I updated QT to the latest release and that seemed to solve the problem too.

But I'm gonna recheck my results. There were a couple VegasPro12 updates recently too. Don't know if that matters.

    Thanks for the info.

When I open like 20 .mov's at the same time, I get a "Gold Tab" for a while, then it goes away after a few minutes, but Vegas goes into a "funk" and never comes out of it. Does the "gold" tab mean anything?

Also, I notice the .mov's from the iPhone are way overspec for the quality level of the camera optics and sensor. It's almost like they want to deter anyone from editing those files natively, for political reasons. Those things are like 32-bit floating point resolution and 24-bit color.

Yeah, the specs sound awesome, but it's just a friggin phone camera. Sony pulls this crap too saying stills from their camcorders are 24MB, and it's technically true, but that's re-rastered up from a 1080 sensor. So it's equivalent to a DVD upscale.

I guess you could mount a phone to the Hubble telescope and claim even more marketing goop.
