VHS capture : crowd sound distortion

Hi.I am transfering old VHS on my cpu. The image is perfect but the sound is not good : I hear voices normally, but at the time the crowd starts to applause (it's a TV quiz), the sound is all but good. There is a lot of distortion.


I had the same problem when I played a humour show on DVD in my cpu and tried to acquire only the sound. The same thing happens : voice is ok, crowd applausing makes distortion.


I am pretty sure it's something easy to fix, but I really don't know what to do.

What is your video capture device? Attach a sample of the audio (or video+audio). Sounds like it's getting too loud and peaking.

I use DVD Maker USB 2.0 (http://us.kworld-global.com/main/prod_in.aspx?mnuid=1306&modid=10&prodid=104&flag=1)


I included a short sample of the voice and then the crowd.


Let me know if you know how to fix that. I know i'll feel numb after understanding what's wrong...

Okay, no clipping. There is a peak at one point, but it's when the host is yelling.

But what you posted is not what unprocessed VHS sounds like. Is this really what the captured file sounds like without further processing? The hollowness during the applause sounds like there was noise reduction applied.

Is the DVD Maker USB 2.0's sound connected to your PC's sound card? Find the software for that and disable any Digital Signal Processing features.
