  1. I've installed ffdshow on my PC, but I don't want to use the filters on MPC. Since the filters run automatically when installed, I really have no idea how to prevent them from running. Does someone know how to deal with this?

I'm not sure, offhand, about MPC, but in MPCHC, you can go into the options, click on the External Filters header in the left pane, and manage which external filters (such as ffdshow) you want to use, not use, block, etc.

In ffdshow (note that the version I have installed hasn't been updated in at least a few months, so things may have changed), you can open (Start Menu) > ffdshow > Video decoder configuration, click on DirectShow Control in the left-hand pane, and add MPC (by its .EXE filename) to the "Don't use ffdshow in:" exception list, making sure the option is enabled.
