There is NO *fixed* GOP-size, it all depends on where/how the encoded stream will be viewed.

BTW, are you sure you did mean HEVC?

No, sorry, I had no idea there is something called "HM-6.3.1"

Maybe I will try to compile it with MinGW, though.

Anyway, it's hard to believe that either the format itself or a particular encoder would enforce a fixed GOP-size for all types of uses or circumstances

You need to be much less cryptic and much more clear & detailed to get any kind of meaningful response.

  9. from what i've read hevc doesn't use a fixed gop structure. it's called "adaptive" as it changes on the fly.

Pretty much the same as all modern video encoders.

@ maryam209 --- how/where did you get the executable form of that encoder?

I've just downloaded its latest git code, but I simply don't know how to compile the damn thing, there are NO detailed instructions for the newbies, and I even am not sure whether the Linux code will be accepted by the MSYS+MinGW environment.

For the curious, here goes a PDF about that surely-pre-alpha software:

  12. A quick glimpse at the PDF indicates that the encoder doesn't currently support dynamic GOP sizing.

    3.1 GOP structure table
Defines the cyclic GOP structure that will be used repeatedly throughout the sequence.
