  1. What would be good render settings for a iPhone 5 to upload to YouTube?
    (Using sony vegas 10)

I've tried some settings (1080p) but whenever I upload it to youtube, it comes out looking very grainy and blurry.

  3. I'll be sure to try this out.

But one question, the raw file says that it's 24 FPS, do I still set the render settings as 30 FPS?

No, use the same fps as the original file

Youtube is the weak link here - even if you upload a good quality video, it will lose a lot of quality once youtube re-encodes it

So how are some videos on YouTube, HD Clear looking like 1080p on 360p?

You should realize those same videos look like garbage compared to what was originally uploaded

Here "clear" is a relative term

A lot of it has to do with shooting technique, lighting

Motion and noise are what make videos difficult to compress

If you have a shaky handheld iphone video in lowlight conditions, it's going to look a lot worse once youtube re-encodes it . The re-encoding done by youtube is what causes the most damage (but of course if your video is garbage to begin with, it will only look like worse garbage after its re-encoded)

if you are going to upload 1080p video to youtube make sure to use a high enough bitrate, i.e. over 10mbps.
