Hey guys.
so I was just watching some movies and had some problems with my DirectVobSub install (Windows 7 x64).
in a nutshell, I noticed that videos I played without DirectVobSub looked better than those that were with subtitles.
my setup is MPC-HC (latest), CoreAVC (latest) and DirectVobSub (2.37) for the subtitles. no codec packs.
I've uploaded comparison pictures here: http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/137008
it's not just different colors but also washed out and less sharp.
is there a way to avoid the difference? maybe a different method to show subtitles without applying video filters?
thanks![]()

And what if You try to use internal subtitle rendering of MPC-HC?
BTW
DirectVobSub (VSFilter) is standalone DirectShow filter (also same library can be used as plugin for Avisynth and VirtualDub) from... Media Player Classic. So... You don't need an external subtitle filter, because VSFilter is part of MPC and MPC-HC. For displaying subtitles in MPC-HC just set required output video renderer.VideoAudio.pl - Serwis o technologii wideo & audio -
first off - thanks for your reply! I thought no one will ever notice this thread :P
the trouble is - I use vsfilter because it has an option to put the subtitles below the picture (by creating black borders up to a 16:9 resolution).
in the options it's called "Vertical Padding" - "Extend to 16:9".
using MPC-HC internal subtitle option does not allow me to do that and when I play HD movies with relatively short height (for example Transformers Revenge of the Fallen: 1280x534), displaying the subtitles on the movie is really a poor experience.
maybe I'm doing this wrong. how would I go off watching an HD movie with subtitles, highest possible quality using PC to clone displays to my HDTV (with HDMI)? -
Give a try to xy-vsfilter --- VSFilter 2.37 is really outdated stuff ;

very nice, I tried playing with this option but had override placement on too, so it didn't work, now it works as expected, also the subtitles re-render when I switch to full screen so they look much better.
you've just made my life so much easier, thanks a lot for all of your help!
by the way, a strange thing happens now. when I open a MKV in the same mph-hc instance more than 2 times it gives me an error:
Code:The following pin(s) failed to find a connectable filter: Haali Media Source::Video
edit: ok after selecting No to Haali Media Splitter -> output -> Use custom media type for H.264 it's fine now.
thanks for your reply man, much appreciated. I tried the new version, it gave me trouble with AVI and some MKVs - it just didn't load the subtitles!
thanks a lot for your time and reply, I already made MPC-HC work like I want, but I'll keep that version in mind in any case!Last edited by shmizan; 26th Jul 2012 at 07:46.
