The MKV files play fine in VLC, but then VLC handles almost any situation.

I want to extract the MKV files ommiting the subtitles, so I can remux. Both apps show Video, Audio and SubTitle tracks. With both, selecting Video extracts the audio, selecting Audio extracts the subtitles, selecting SubTitle causes them to crash.

All software that I have tried that converts MKV to another format hardcodes the subtitles.

Yes. If you're using the original MKVExtractGUI, as I recall, it doesn't work correctly with the most recent versions of mkvtoolnix. So, try the most recent version of MKVExtractGUI-2 with the most recent version of mkvtoolnix (the former also had to be updated due to some issues with newer versions of mkvtoolnix).

    MKVExtractGUI-2.4.1.
To download it I had to get it packaged with the latest version of MKVToolnix. V5.5.0.

My only comment would be that when it comes to VC1 neither of the programs mentioned above de-mux them correctly. They convert the video to AVI and MKVToolNix uses it's AVI module rather than it's VC1 module to mux the files. My Seagate players refuse to play these files.

TSmuxerGui does de-mux VC1 files correctly and when these are inserted into ToolNix It will use it's VC1 module.

meGUI worked correctly. My video stream is h264. Have never come across VC-1 anywhere.

It seems tsMuxeR does my task all in one go - just select the video and wanted audio. Will give it a test.

  7. There's a patch (I don't think it's been released as a complete version yet) for MKVCleaver which should get it to work correctly. The patch is version 0.5.0.4
Or alternatively, I'm pretty sure if you select the tracks for extraction using the right hand pane (batch mode) rather than the left pane it'll work correctly.

If you're remuxing the video as an AVI rather than just extracting, I'm fairly sure MKVCleaver gets the frame rate slightly wrong for 23.976 fps video. I don't know why, but according to VirtualDubMod the AVIs it creates are 23.975 fps (other frame rates seem okay). As a result, I open the AVI MKVCleaver creates with VirtualDubMod, correct the frame rate and the save it as a new AVI.
