Hello I have a black magic intensity pro capture card. I own the new xbox 360 slim and it has 1 hdmi slot. I play on a computer monitor which has a DVI and a VGA hook up. I use a DVI to hdmi cable to play on my Xbox 360. So enable to capture video and play Xbox do I need a Hdmi y splitter cable (to hook up my monitor and 1 for the capture card). Will this all work before I buy all this? Or would I also need to buy a VGA to hdmi? Thank you.

Passive splitter cables lower the HDMI signal strength by half, which can affect the picture. To provide a full-strength signal to a monitor and capture device, you need a powered HDMI splitter, like this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10113&cs_id=1011306&p_id=...seq=1&format=2

Using a monitor, it is likely that the only captures that you can make will be 720p. Monitors don't understand what to do with interlaced video (1080i and 480i are interlaced). Also, monitors often can operate only at either 50Hz or 60Hz, so video that uses other frame rates probably won't work either. ...and 720p is unlikely to look good on the monitor, because generally monitors don't upscale as competently as a TV, and only video at their native resolution looks good.

Given what another forum member has said about his HD game capture setup, if you plan on making HD captures, you will need to check to be sure you have a computer powerful enough to handle encoding on the fly, and if you plan to capture using a lossless video format, you will need a raid array to contain the gigantic capture files and avoid dropped frames.
