Is this possible, as it aint working with my all in one blu ray player.................is this a hardware issue as opposed to the actual bandwidth available over the USB interface...........

    Long and complicated explanations welcome.............

  2. USB 2.0 bandwidth in the real world is about 30 megabytes per second (240 megabits per second). Your HD audio is less than 1/100 of that (for example DTS is usually below 1.5 megabits per second). Your player simply doesn't support HD audio on USB devices.

    Thanks.............

So in theory my players ability to do so could change with a firmware update for example.......

Firmware can't alter hardware limitations, so no.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

  5. Blu-ray DTS-HD runs up to 6 Mb/s, DTS-HD MA up to 24.5 Mb/s. Still less than 1/10 the USB 2.0 throughput. If your player supports these on Blu-ray discs a future firmware update could add it to USB playback. But I wouldn't count on it.

    Just a quick update.............

I have now assumed that the usb hard drive method for HD audio will not work, and so I burned an AVCHD disc [which is playable on my HT]........however it still does not work.

Could my system only be able to play HD audio off a bluray disc, whether its the original, or BDROM home made burn.......?

  7. Blu-ray players don't have to support HD audio at all:

And yes, it's possible that your player supports HD audio only from Blu-ray discs. Check your manual.

My LGHB405SU does support HD audio, both DTS-MA and Dolbys True HD.................

I took the mkv file with an SD video and DTS-MA audio and converted into AVCHD, but I still had no joy.

Does the audio need to be changed to AC3 or LPCM first to work as an AVCHD..?

The manual is not that clear for me..........

the manual can be found here

right hand side, if you could look into it I would be grateful

  9. The manual doesn't list any HD audio formats under Playable Audio Formats in the File Compatibility section. That's not definitive, it could just be an oversight, or maybe they just cover DTS HD MA under "DTS". But it's not a good sign.

    your right it doesn't...............

however if you look in the advanced features under the specification tab of the website it lists them.............

the manual also lists the trademark logos for dolby and dts hd formats........

Yes, but it doesn't specifically say for file playback. It's very common for players to support different things for different sources.

So looking more likely to only support from the optical drive, or worse, only a blu ray disk..........

the LG support team could not even confirm either as they kept banging on about it not being related to their product, but it clearly is.........

  13. Tech support usually knows nothing about this sort of thing. All they do is look at the same documents you saw online. You have to be very persistent and get to a manager before even having a hope of getting that information. Probably the manager won't know either and you'll have to get to an engineer.

This was exactly my thoughts ,and so I have emailed there support address stating that the technical specifications provided both online and on the downloadable PDF state clearly that HD audio is supported, yet the user manual that you get with the product suggests it doesn't, or at least is not clear enough.....

Thanks for you time, you have been a great help..........
