  1. hello everyone
i'm trying to make a DVD that will play on a set-top DVD player. the source is an .AVI of an out-of-print 1930s black/white movie. (this is the only source i've been able to find anywhere)

i usually just use VisualHub, but when i tried to play the VIDEO_TS file from the resulting .ISO the audio was all choppy before it crashed VLC (used to test before burning)

so now i'm trying 'ffmpegX 0.0.9y' (my first experience using)...
these are the settings i've used so far. (the resulting VIDEO_TS file does play on VLC. the video looks fine but the Audio sounds like chipmunks)

from the ffmpegX 0.0.9y 'Info' button:
    VIDEO: [XVID] 592x432 12bpp 23.976 fps 1736.0 kbps (211.9 kbyte/s)
    audiocodec: framecopy (format=2000 chans=1 rate=48000 bits=16 B/s=24000 sample-1)

    from the 'Source format' panel:
    From: AVI
    Video: mpeg4, yuv420p, 592x432
    Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, mono, 192 kb/s

    from the 'Target format' panel:
    To: DVD mpeg2enc (Preset)

    from the 'Audio' tab:
Audio Codec: .MP2 (was the Preset default but maybe should be ac3 to match source?)
    Audio parameters:
    Audio bitrate: 192
    Sampling: 48000 Hz
    Channels: mono
    Mode: CBR
    Audio track: 0

admittedly i don't know what i'm really doing but i don't know what other options to look at.
any help would be appreciated. it's a fun movie i'd like to enjoy on my tv.

    - Your source file has AC3 audio.
    - DVD supports AC3 audio.
Try setting the Audio codec to "Passthrough". With this setting the other audio settings are ignored and the audio stream will be copied as-is to the output.

Also check the "Set 3:2" checkbox in the Options tab to mark the output video with a 3:2 pulldown, as should be set for 23.976 fps DVD video. This should prevent choppy playback.
