  1. Hi,

I've got the SilverCrest DV5300 Camcorder, and I use Adobe Premiere to mix my movies.

When I record with the camera it saves my files as ".AVI". Even though I recorded for 38 mb, the Adobe Premiere freezes whenever I try to upload the .AVI 38 mb file.

    Howcome, please?

When I go to File -> Import and choose my file, an alert comes up:

Sorry, a serious error has occured that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.

avi is just a general name for a container. there are all kinds wacky formats called avi. never heard of a silvercrest cam so i assume it may produce oddball video.

try using mediainfo on a video. put mediainfo into text mode and copy/paste the results here.

  4. What version of premiere ?

You can re-wrap it in a .m2ts transport stream (eg. tsmuxer) and CS4/5 should be able to accept it . CS3 and below don't have support for AVC video, so you would have to encode to a digital intermediate for editing (e.g. cineform, or some lossless format e.g. huffyuv, ut video codec)

  6. When my brother saves his project he choose Export -> Media.
    I can't choose that in CS3.

Im just about getting CS 5 Family (Will it work??)

And then I'll try the normal way. But will Pro CS 5 >FAMILY< work?

    - How should I save as new avi?

When I save I can't choose type even though i picked AVI in the dropdown menu.
