    jasonkral,

The burn failed immediately after consecutive errors while trying to write to the disk (atapi errors 030c00 and 037202). My guess would be the problem was the ricohjpn d01 media (blank disk) you were using. If you don't have any more of those disks, get some verbatim dual layers. I've never gotten more than occasional success burning dual layer disks made by anyone but verbatim. Especially with dual layer disks, using cheap media can get expensive by the time you factor in the scrap.

If you still have some of the ricohjpn d01 disks, and don't want to just write them off, you could try upgrading the firmware for your ad-7586h drive from the current kh03. Apparently, there is at least a kh04 firmware available, but in the time I had for this, I couldn't find a place you could download it. Theoretically, the hp site should offer the firmware...someplace.

You could also try slowing the burn speed from 4x to 2.4x. It probably won't help, but when you're grasping at straws, you should try all of them.

When burning DL media I find it helpful to drop the burn speed down by one setting.

  7. hello mate , i tried that and other things as well , still did not get one dual layer to burn completely , i wasted 8 dual layer dvds all verbatim ..thats when i posted on hp forums , and was told by about 6 other users that he dvd drive even tho they say its compatible with dual layers , isnt really compatible ..

incase people are wondering im running an i5 2.53 cpu , 1 gig video , 320 gig hdd , 4 gig memory , and on the burning partition i only have windows 7 ultimate and dvd fab 8 and nero 10 installed ...no other apps ... if i burn normal dvd's i can burn at 8 speed no problems perfectly , dual layers wont even burn at lowest setting ...

Perhaps buy an external USB-connected drive and use that.
