what are you using for media? the outer edge where the end of movies resides is most prone to errors especially on cheap media. try some verbatim if you haven't already.

most folks like the verbatim 16x dvd-r for most purposes. or if you need dual layer use verbatim dvd+r dl only. and make sure to leave around 100mb free on any dvdr you make. it just doesn't pay to try to burn any of them to the very edge.

TDK is generally good stuff, but it is worth trying other brands. Some dvd writers are picky, so you may need to experiment.

You may also want to try burning at a lower speed than the maximum chosen by the burner. For example, if you have 8x media, try burning at 4x, for example.

Another factor to consider is that, because burn speed increases as you go toward the end of the disc, a failed burn can result from data not being fed to the burner as fast as it needs it. This can happen if you allow other apps to run while burning. Those apps will compete with your burner for access to resources. Don't run any other apps, including networking. Also, if your HD is badly fragmented (meaning your file is spread out all over the disk, rather than all in one place), you can encounter problems.

Finally, you could also just have a defective hard disk (or damaged file). To test for this possibility, try playing the movie from the hard disk first. If you can play through the part of the movie that seems to induce freezing in the burned disc version, then your file/HD is probably ok. But if not, then that's your problem, not media or your burner.

bandit1222 - Why did you post this here instead of in the more appropriate "DVD Authoring" forum? Your question has nothing to do with VCD/SVCD at all. It's generally best to post in the appropriate forum. You're kind of lucky because this particular branch is not real busy most of the time and people generally just answer these kinds of questions anyway, but it's always better to post in the right place to begin with.

I have used TDK DVD-R and I have had good results. It maybe your DVD Player. I have two external players. One plays everything I throw at it, and the other is temperamental-end freezing common. Use Verbatum-if available at a good price-else TDK is OK.

TDK is almost all CMC now. Unreliable and very variable in quality.
I've not seen TDK-made media in a while, just TDK-branded CMC. Big difference.

Indeed, all current TDK media is CMC, as is all of the media from their parent Imation. (It owns the brand).

The combination of your burner, your player and the TDK media is clearly not acceptable.

One or more of them will have to change.

As Johnny Carson used to say, "I did not know that." I still have a few spindles of the old stuff, and they work fine. Thanks for the heads-up; when I fill up again, it won't be with TDK.
