    Hi folks.

Im having trouble burning DVDs, though not Cds with my laptop. I keep getting that message. Im not using the best quality blank dvds but it is the ones ive mostly used and they burned fine up until yesterday. I have pasted the nero log below. Any help would be appreciated, this has happened at the worst possible time for me.

    Thanks.

This appears to be the error:

    3:21:12 PM #24 SPTI -1135 File SCSIPassThrough.cpp, Line 179
    CdRom0: SCSIStatus(x02) WinError(0) NeroError(-1135)
    Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
That usually means the drive is in PIO mode, though it shows as DMA mode in the log.

A second drive is showing up in PIO mode, though:

    CdRomPeripheral : PQ5401K JMX680J 1.01 amg89kwx Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
All drives should be in DMA mode.

The 'Could not perform end of Disc-at-once' is not really the error, but the result of it.

I would go to your Device Manager and check the DMA mode of your drives:

To check DMA/PIO mode within Windows:

    Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

From there, right click on one of the channels and choose 'Properties>Advanced Settings'. All drives should be DMA mode. The 'Current Transfer Mode' for Hard drives is usually DMA 4-6 and DVD burners DMA 2-4, DVD ROMs usually DMA 2. If you see any in PIO mode, that can slow things down.

Changing them back may be easy or complicated. First see if you can change them in that window. If not, I usually uninstall the channel the drive is on and let the OS reinstall it. This will usually take a reboot. This will not damage any files on the computer.
But I would also try a different brand of DVD media. It's possible the quality of the media has changed. This can happen even in the same batch with some DVD media. Easy enough to test, try some Verbatim or TY DVD media and see if there is any improvement.

Alternatively, since Nero seems to have finished creating the file, you might try ImgBurn to burn it instead, though you may get a similar error.

DVDs and CDs use different lasers for burning. While CDs may work with a drive, DVDs may have problems.

But if nothing else has changed, I suspect a media problem.

Hi. Thanks very much for your detailed response.
I got some better media from a friend half an hour ago, tried that and got the same result.

I followed the DMA instructions. On the primary and secondary channels the option was "DMA if available" and it was already selected on both of them. Im not sure where that DMA off on the nero log comes from and i only have one drive if that helps any???

    Thanks again redwudz.
