About a year ago ... a friend brought me his Toshiba Satellite Laptop ... L305D S5893.

He had no audio and was hoping I could find the problem ... I messed with it for 2 weeks or more. I finally told him to just get a sound card to plug in the side of it.

Well that didn't go so well ... the new laptops use 34/54 Express Card slots. And the sound card we got was for the older designs.

So they got it back and didn't hear anything more about it.

Well last week ... at one of the stores I go to ... one of my friends brothers gave me a laptop to work on ... he wanted ... Windows 7 to be installed on it. So he gave me the Laptop and the paperwork and disk for WIN 7.

It is the same Laptop ... with the audio problem.

So here I am ... asking if any of you have had this problem and have knowledge of this problem.

I've had pretty good luck with WIN 7 installing all the drivers ... on my past PC builds ... except for this one ... Laptop.

I first tried WIN 7 ... audio setup was installed ... [downloaded from Toshiba Site] ... I heard audio ... I watched his family videos with sound on his laptop ... I thought all was well.

When it was time to restart the PC ... I did .... Windows started up and the Bubble popped up on the bottom right side ... saying ... blah blah blah ... installing ... High Defintion Audio Bus Driver. And then it says ... Failed.

Does this on WIN XP ... WIN Vista x64 ... and WIN 7 Ultimate x64.

Samething happens over and over again ... the Driver setup is a Realtek. I have a special 500GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive with all my stuff located on it for when I rebuild PCs.

All the latest Realtek drivers are on there ... Nvidia ... ATI ... if a PC needs them ... this drive will get the PC up and going.

At the moment ... it appears ... Realtek 2.52 is the latest version.

I even use Driver Genius 9 ... to help me find the drivers.

But it keeps repeating the samething over and over again.

The Driver gets installed ... sometimes during all the trials and re-trials ... nothing worked. But when another idea comes to my thoughts to try ... I get lucky and I do hear audio ... I even do a System Restore Point ... or I back up the Drivers with Driver Genius. But when it is time to restart the Laptop ... it goes through the song and dance of ... detecting the audio drivers and then it says ... Failed.

So ... Does anybody have any ideas about why the audio drivers ... become uninstalled ... during the reboot routine ??

He could spend some money and try one of those Express card sound cards on Ebay ... seen one for $15 bucks or spend $45 bucks for an Express Card 34 To PCMCIA PC Cards Adapter and use the Creative SB Sound Card [I have it stashed away in a box ... up on a shelf] we got last year.
