  1. Hi folks.

I've got an HD video camera, but haven't taken the plunge into HD authoring yet. I've been waiting for the format war to sort itself out, and now that it has, I'll still wait a while longer until prices on burners come down.

Anyway...I just got a new (free) DVD player. The manual states that is supports DVD-VR.

I've read bits and pieces about being able to write high-def files to standard DVD-R media. Does the DVD-VR spec support this? Is this a way I could view HD video without using Blu-Ray media?

    Thanks!

    What format HD video camera?

Regardless, "high-def files to standard DVD-R media" only applies if you first buy a HD DVD player.

And as pointed out above. If you intend on future viewing in HD, then you will need an HD player. Otherwise, your best bet is conversion to SD and compliance to the standard dvd video spec ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-Video ), as opposed to VR to ensure the discs work in all players.
