I'm trying to take a clip from a dvd and edit it into a video I am making. I am very horrible with computers and it has taken me weeks to resort to this. Someone please help me. I have a Windows Vista Inspiron 1545. Again I'm horrible with computers so please make it as simple as possible. I have PowerDirector 8, and DVD Cloner VII

  2. Well if, as your thread title states, you're trying to make an AVI out of it, then install AutoGK, open the VOB, switch to 'Target Quality' at the default 75%, add it to the Job Queue, and hit 'Start'.

But I don't know what you're really trying to do and I suspect you don't either.

I guess, PowerDirector 8 will definitely serve your purpose.

If you are looking for free, easy and rough Tool, You may try DVD2AVI. If you are familiar with DVDShrink(?), you can clip desired segment from DVD with DVDShrink . you can follow DVDShrink Guide from middle "Click Set Start/End Frames and will edit out the credits for even better video quality..." and finally..

Edit video clip in AVIDemux nicely.
