How can I import or capture dv video into Mac OS X? Ultimately I want to create a DVD with subtitles generated from the datecode information so that it shows the time and date the recording was made in DVD subtitle. I've been able to do this on Windows with a variety of tools from videohelp, but I can't even get to the first step on Mac OS X.
The only application I've seen that can import at all is iMovie, but it creates a .dv file. I don't know of a tool that will read datecode information from that file format.
Tools I've been using on Windows:
WinDV: to capture DV from the camera to an AVI file.
DV Submaker: creates subtitles from datecode information in the AVI file
DVDAuthorGUI: compress and create DVD image including subtitles.
I could potentially use
iMovie to create .dv file. Not sure if it keeps the datecode information.
???: No way to get datecode information
ffmpegx to compress and create DVD image, replaces DVDAuthorGUI
If I could get an avi file instead I could try to use 'DV submaker" on windows and copy the result file back over.
This is one of those things that just doesn't seem like it should be this hard. But iMovie doesn't support subtitles.
Does Final Cut Pro support generating subtitles from DV date code information?
