I haven't stumbled upona bad DL (Verbatim +) in about an year. Now there's 6 of them ina row. I don't know if it's just bad luck or a DVD ROM, or soft problem. I have no problem burning SLs. I usually use Nero, but since these problems started also used Cheetah and Imgburn, with the same results. With Nero and Cheetah the discs appear to be OK (no error message), but will freeze at around the half point (so I thought maybe a layer break problem, but what kind?). With Imgburn the burning stops and I get an error message. The burnt discs also don't play on standalone players, and can't be ripped back (reading error on DVDDecrypter)

here are some shots with Imgburn:

if anyone could help it's be great, 'cause it's getting really frustrating. THX.

    Three questions:

    1. How old is the burner?
    2. Have you ever cleaned the laser?
    3. Are your Verbatims made in Singapore or India?

I've had it for 6 moths, but it works a lot.
    never cleaned it
as from there they come, that I don't know, but I've used around 150 up to now, all bought from the same shop, and never had a bad...until now

I have had that problem in the past I solved it by lowering the burn speed.

  5. What write speed are you using? I can't see the setting but 47% on the progress bar in ~ 6 minutes elapsed makes me think you're using max speed.

[EDIT] Okay, I do see it in the log (last image). That could be your problem.

I won't burn Verbatim DL discs above 4x speed. Faster burns are more likely to result in problems with DL media and as others have said, a slower speed may solve your problem.

Burn speed should have been my 4th question. Slipped my mind completely, and it's the most likely culprit. That's what I like about this forum; if you miss something, others are here to fill in the gaps.

Occasionally, Imgburn will choke during the Verify stage (especially with DL discs), even though the burn was just fine. See how the disc plays back on a DVD player. Chances are, it will be alright.

ok, checked on the standalone, and it plays but not perfectly, but DVDDecrypter can't rip it (stops exactly at 50%), and neither can Imgburn write an ISO image.
what'd you bet on? a bad DVD lot?

I would suggest a bad drive. DL burning is the first thing to go wonky.

any remedies to that? I mean, is there any way of being sure (test, rtc...), or I must simply throw it away?
