I recorded three movies with my Flip video camera that need to be merged into one movie. I'm not trying to convert anything or make edits, just join the three avi movies into one avi file.
All the methods I've tried result in a nice looking avi movie file, but with no audio. I checked this using QuickTime Player (have Perian), VLC and WMP. Here's what I have tried so far. Nothing has worked. This seems needlessly difficult and after trying for a whole day I'm pretty frustrated. So thanks for ANY help.
Oh also, tried iMovie but it was going to take an hour just to open the first file. Not going to happen. OS X 10.5.8 - PowerBook G4
- D-Vision with avimerge option.
- D-Vision with mencoder option.
- ffmpegX (will all required components installed)

i've had great luck merging avi files off my coby camera
using Visualhub, or via using MPEGStreamclip to open all
as a merged file and then exporting as a DV Stream file,
and then importing the DV Stream into ffmpegx,
making my avi file that way.....
we'll need more info on the video from the flip...
what does Quicktime say about the video?
(in Quicktime, perform apple -i, and post that info here...)"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

When I'm not here, Where can I be found?

Doesn't the FlipShare software provide actions to do this? (I can't properly test this myself without actual camera footage.)

Terry, thanks. QuickTime shows this info about the unmerged source clips and the joined file (not sure which one anymore; I created quite a few and deleted the others already):
3ivx MPEG-4 5.0.3, 640 x 480, Millions
Microsoft ADPCM, Mono, 44.100 kHz
One note: these are going to YouTube. I don't care what format that are in the end as long as they play. -
Case, that was a great suggestion to try the FlipShare app and I don't know why I didn't think of it. It looks like it should work but I'm operating at the minimum requirements for the app and the progress bar stalls at the merest sliver -- probably 1/40th of the way. (I'm on older hardware.) I may leave it running all night to see if anything completes. Thanks.

I was able to solve this problem. Here's what I did in case someone else with this problem finds this thread. 1) Used Flv Crunch to convert each .avi into an .mp4. 2) Used MPEG Streamclip to join all three .mp4 files into a single .mp4 file. It took a few hours, but the audio is intact.
