    Hi,

A friend gave me a hard drive.
I'm looking to connect it to my computer via IDE connection if possible. The specs
    of the drive are here:
    http://www.span.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23_504&products_id=4956&print=1&osC...b1cb3b2bc1ca6d

Can someone recommend the type of cable to use for this type of HDD to enable connection to IDE??

    Thanks!

Just looked for an adapter but couldn't find one. Why, though, would you want to degrade your computer's performance with such a slow drive? It's meant for handhelds.

ZIF just means Zero Insertion Force. It doesn't tell you anything about the adapter socket or plug. Most all computers use a ZIF sockets for the CPU. (The one with the little arm.) You would have to go to Hitachi's website and look for one of their spec sheets on the drive to find out how many pins, size, and hopefully a standard part number.

Aren't all these ZIFs a standard 40pins using a standard 22mm cabling? I do not know of any adapters made for them either.

Thanks for the input guys. Basially this HDD belonged to a JVC EVerio unit that unfortunately suffered some physical damage and I'm looking to salvage some valuable footage.

Steve's Digicams has a article on IBM/Hitachi Microdrives. Might be some info there. Most of them are inside a small case, though, not bare drives: http://www.steves-digicams.com/microdrive.html There is also a link there to Hitachi where you might find a spec sheet if you have the model # of the drive.
