using vegas 9 platinum and when i go to make a movie and select dvd it does all it's stuff and ask to send to architect, i say yes, it opens dvda 4.5 studio and then says .mpg is not a supported format!? (that vegas just made with an ac3) i renamed the mpg .vob, m2v and no luck. i've tried making a separate mpg and ac3 but no luck, same error message. advice greatly appreciated since i'm on a time crunch and a bit new to sony, i'm used to fcp.

btw in vegas 9 help it says only dvda platinum will take ac3 so i tried pca also and dvda won't see it either. so if anyone can tell me the the right settings in 'render as' in vegas 9 platinum that will give me a working file or files to open up in dvda 4.5 studio that would be great. orig is 720x480 minidv footage and i just want it to look/sound that good on dvd. thnx

  2. the first thing to check is whether or not you activated your software. until activated it runs in demo mode and mpeg-2 is not a permitted format.

i think i have activated dvda, i registered, etc but how do i know for sure? it does not say demo mode anywhere, would i see that at startup?

i tried making a wmv in vegas and that did go into the dvda timeline. wmv is a combined audio/video file so if i put that in dvda i should get both on dvd correct? also i see the specs are 1280x720 and 48k 16 so is this actually better quality than the mpg? that would surprise me...

yep, both activated. when i try render as- type=mpeg2 and template= dvd ntsc, the description box says -
    'Audio: 224 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, Layer 2
    Video: 29.97 fps, 720x480
Use this setting to create an MPEG-2 file with an NTSC DVD-compliant video stream, and an MPEG layer 2 audio stream.'

so firstly is that the right setting for dvda 4.5 studio (not platinum) and should i end up seeing an mpg and an audio file showing up separately? (if so what extension will it be since i see no option to choose it) or i should see just one mpg file created that has audio embedded as it seems to denote in the description...

  5. yes that setting is fine to create a dvd. in vegas 8 pro you can choose either separate streams .mpv and .mpa or a single .mpg. not sure about studio 9. sorry. either way should be fine though.

My solution has always been to not use DVDA. Not because it would not load the files, but because I just don't like it as an authoring tool. There are plenty of free ones or good paid alternatives.

with the tools u mentioned on the other post am i able to use just one of those to drag or select an mpg and separate ac3 (or other option in vegas u recommend) into the program and then simply burn with no menus, etc.? i just need folks who don't have a minidv player to be able to see footage on a dvd with matching audio out of vegas...

As long as your audio and video are both DVD compliant, muxman (free), IFOEdit, and ReJig can all create a menuless DVD from demultiplexed (elementary) files (m2v and ac3). I use ReJig's demultiplex function to create the elementary source files and I use IFOEdit for authoring menuless DVDs. Use ImgBurn to burn to disc.

have muxman demo now. is this correct:
select my mpg file (which i changed the extension to m2v) under video (must i select size and aspect ratio or just leave as none so it will stay as the original is?)

and under audio select my ac3 file and leave the stream as 1
and leave the language -unspecified (for english as default?)
    extension- normal
    delay- 0

and do nothing with subpictures, track 1-32 say unused
and at bottom it says 1 scene, then start and i'll end up with a TS file in a folder that i can burn with muxman or i have to burn with another like...?

Simply renameing .mpg to .m2v is not a good idea. Regardless of whether there is sound in the .mpg or not, you need to demultilplex it because .mpg is a container file format, not an elementary video file format. I suggest Rejig for demultiplexing.

If you still have trouble after that, while Muxman is a better ap, IFOEdit is somewhat easier to use, and a little more forgiving.
    1. Open IFOEdit
    2. Click "DVD Author" on the top menu bar.
    3. Click "Author new DVD" to open the authoring dialog window.
    4. Click the button to the right of the "Video" text input box, then navigate to the folder where your .m2v file resides and select it.
    5. Click the button to the right of the "Audio" text input box, then navigate to the folder where your .ac3 file resides and select it.
    6. (Optional) Click on the audio file you inserted in the thext box to highlight it and choose the language in from the drop-down list to the left
    7. Click the button to the right of the "Output Stream" text input box, then navigate to the folder where you want your DVD files to be written.
    8. Click "OK" button.
