    Hello,
    I am trying to make movie from short video files using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0
    Video camera I use is SonyHDD Hadnycam DCR-SR46. Videos comes out in .mpg format.
    Neither when I play files in Vegas nor when I save movie to my computer, there is no sound for the videos in .mpg format. (There is sound when I open video in any player)

    Here are all the properties for the files taken from Vegas

    Plug-In
    Name: mcplug.dll
    Folder: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\mcplug
    Format: MainConcept MPEG-2
    Version: Version 2.0 (Build 5403)
    Company: Sony Creative Software Inc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Note: files saved in .wmv works perfectly in Vegas!
    Could you please tell me what is wrong?
    (PS: My concern is to play movies on DVD and to shrink the files size without loosing the quality too much, but still being able to use all the special effects that Vegas has)
    Thanx in advance!
  2. Is it AC3 audio? check with mediainfo on your handycam files
    IIRC, it's a licensing issue with dolby / AC3 with that version of vegas
    As a work around, you can re-wrap (lossless, no re-encoding or quality loss, unlike using wmv) into MPEG-TS (.m2ts) using tsmuxer and I think it should work
    Thank you for your answer!
    This is all I found in the specs for the camera:
    Video Format (Logical): MPEG2-PS
    Audio compression format: Dolby Digital 2ch Dolby Digital Stereo Creator
    Also, I downloaded tsmuxer and tried it. It does work when I play it in Vegas, but when I record movie and play it back, it doesn't have sound too...
    Sorry, but I need your help again.
    Thank you in advance!
    What software are you using for playback? It might be as simple as installing AC3Filter , AC3 ACM, or just using other software like VLC, KMPlayer or SMplayer
    I use VLC for playback.
    Besides being able to watch these movies on my comp, I have to burn them on DVD.
    I burned DVD with the last movie I made in .mpg but there was no sound as well.
    I'm so confused!
  7. get gspot. install it and use it on one of your source files. at the bottom try clicking through the proposed codec solutions for video and audio. post a screenshot here.
  8. If it works in vegas studio now (using the re-wrapped .m2ts file), but not on the dvd, what were your other steps and software used after vegas studio? (i.e. how did you author and burn the dvd?)
    Does the authored dvd files on the pc (before burning) work fine with sound (i.e. is this a dvd playback issue)?
    Does the burned dvd play on the pc? (i.e. could it be burning/disc media issue or DVD player issue?)
    Please be more precise as to what is working or not working at each stage
    No other software I used after vegas. I burned DVD using Nero Express (Nero 7 Ultra Express).
    File didn't have sound before burning the DVD. DVD player works and set up well. When I play this DVD, there is picture, but no sound.
    Yes, burned DVD shows movie on pc, but without sound.
    At the end of burning process, it gave me a message "completed successfully".
  11. from the screenshot it looks like nero is all messed up. gspot says there is an ac3 audio track.
    i'd try installing ac3filter. if it were my computer i'd un-install nero and never put it back. it's worthless crud, and causes more problems than just about any other program.
    If the output from sony plays in vlc and other players with audio then the problem is in nero ... make sure it's not re-encoding the files before producing the disc .
    Use filmerit to check filters and codecs for issues as well as somethings out.
