So many video formats in the market, that they are not compatible such as .smv, .wmv, .mov etc. (really do not know how many different videos formats right now and hopefully someone can list all and their makers). What is the good video conversion tool that can efficiently and effectively convert the most of video formats each other?

And it will almost always do so at the lowest of quality.

    Easy
    Quality
    Fast

    Pick one, maybe two.

  4. "Best" is too subjective and cannot be answered. How about AVS Video Converter - I see it advertised everywhere including at the bottom of this page.

If you want an answer then define "best". Best to you might mean "fastest" because you go nuts if it takes more than 1 hour to do. Best to another guy might mean "easy' because he doesn't understand much about the subject. Best to another person might mean "best quality" because he doesn't care how long it takes and he understands the subject, he just wants the final result to look as good as possible.

I guess for your vague needs the program called Super is pretty easy to use and while it doesn't produce the highest quality output, it just works and it's good enough for a lot of people. Try it and see if it does what you want.

By the way, NOBODY is going to spend the time to list all the video formats and who owns them. Good luck with that.

If you google for the file extension you will find that there are few lists around that will tell you what and who. Some of those - .smv, .amv etc. are fairly obscure and only supported by specific tools, not general converters. Which is not a bad thing given how crappy the output of some of these formats is. For the most common formats I like Xvid4PSP. It produces good quality output, is flexible, and covers a good range of input and output types. SUPER covers more, but the quality is not as good, and it is more prone to refuse to encode.

SUPER is good as an all in one video converter, as a 1st time user it might taking some getting use to the gui.

One you get the hang of things you can then start comparing it to other conversion tools and start looking at specific tools for specific vidoe formats.

The good tool should be able to convert most of the video formats (not just a couple of popular formats) so the user does not have to change the tools frequently. The advertised one is not always good because it needs to advertise to the public. The user experience sometimes is worth more.
