Hi, I've got a question for you all.

I'm currently reading about the new HD formats and all the supported codecs and one thing that I realized is that Microsoft has an implementation of VC1 (or WVC1) and Blu-ray drives are compliant with VC1. My question is this; is it possible to convert (without recoding) a wmv to something compatible with Blu-ray drives? For example; take a wmv, extract the elementary stream to .vc1 and remux it into a .TS (or .PS, .M2TS) and then author a Blu-ray disc?

    Thanks
    Nic

Use ASF2VC1 for extracting the WVC1 stream from the ASF container,
then use Tsmuxer for wrapping it in a BluRay-compliant file structure.

    Thanks for the reply.

So I guess by this comment this means the two VC1 implementations are the same.

I gave this method a go, seems to work fine, amazing.

One thing I can't seem to get to work though is loading the ts (If I create that using tsmuxer instead of a Blu-ray disc) in VideoReDo Plus. All I keep getting is "Cannot find PAT packet in program stream".

I understand that a VC1 elementary stream lacks metadata that would be useful when rebuilding a ts file. Is there a tool that could help me with rebuilding the missing info in the PAT header? I tried ProjectX but no luck. It can't seem to find the video stream (Or maybe I'm doing something wrong).

    Thanks again!

    Glad to hear that.

I presume VideoReDo supports only MPEG-video in transport streams

Again you are right Midzuki, thanks for all the help.

I just did a quick search on VideoReDo and that's exactly the problem. I've got a lot to learn. Is this the same deal with ProjectX?

Alas, some of the finest applications, such as VideoReDo, only support MPEG. We await the day when such will be readily available for future formats such as HD, or WMV/VC-1 or H.264, etc. Of course, this was the case with only MPEG-2 only a few years ago...
I hate VHS. I always did.

Well in this case, let's hope 2009 will be the year!
