    Hi everyone,

I wasn't sure where to post this. Please move this thread if it is in the wrong section.

I'm having some strange problems with wvc1 1080p files in the wmv container. My processors is pretty slow, so I'm using MPC-HC's DXVA support to offload the decoding to my video card. I have a few of these wvc1 wmv files that play fine in MPC-HC for the first minute or so and then freeze. It's always at the same spot in the file, and relatively the same spot for all of these files. The time counter keeps on going but the video shows the last frame only. It seems like the same situation happens if I try to skip to any portion of the file. The physical memory usage slowly climbs to the top while MPC is frozen.

VLC plays the file past that minute mark and can also seek within the file with no problems, but since it doesn't support DXVA, the video is unwatchable. I've also tried this with WMP 11 and that is the worst of both situations, it can't play the video smoothly, freezes at about the same point as MPC, and can't seek.

Any and all comments are welcome.

The problem is your system is too slow to play 1080p,best to upgrade your system to dual core or better quad core if you are going to watch/edit hd.

I don't think that is really my problem. I am able to watch 1080p mkv files without any problems what so ever (CPU utilization below 20%). It just so happens that this particular format seems to freeze MPC after a minute or so of normal playback (with CPU utilization below 20% for the first minute).

You should update your computer specs cause it sounds like you are using a single core 2.66ghz p4 cpu.

I am using a single core 2.66Ghz P4 CPU. I understand that 1080p playback withithout DXVA support is not possible on this CPU. That is not what I am here for. I have DXVA working flawlessly and am able to play 1080p files, which I have, multiple times. So please, let's not get hung up on my machine not being able to play 1080p files without hardware acceleration.

The files I am talking about freeze MPC-HC and I am trying to figure out how to get MPC to not freeze. Like I mentioned before, MPC is able to use my video card to decode these files as it plays them fine for the first minute or so.

I also don't believe the files are corrupted because VLC is able to read them fine. I would use VLC for playback but I can't because my CPU is too slow.

Now please, can we stick to the topic of the files freezing MPC-HC and not the topic of me not being able to play the files without hardware acceleration?

I'm sorry for the tone above, it just seems like I am being asked to just throw money at it instead of looking for a solution. If I go out and buy myself an i7 and run MPC-HC, it will still freeze.

  6. have you ever been able to get other 1080p wvc1 files to work properly with your dxva setup (not avc/h.264)? or is it the problem limited just this batch of files?

maybe try a different mpchc build , or if you have cyberlink try that

or try re-wrapping the container perhaps there are errors; asfbin can sometimes fix errors, or use windows media stream editor

  7. As above. I wonder if the files are fully VC-1 compliant. If the graphic driver cannot implement an appropriate DXVA device driver interface (DDI), the codec would fallback on software, no? MPCHC should be fine with VC-1 hardware acceleration.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
