    Howdy,

I'm trying to capture off of my Canon ZR 900 through a firewire cable and I'm having a little difficulty. The computer detects it fine, it even prompts me to chose what to do with the new device, and the camera monitor shows "DV IN" which brings me to conclude that it's been regognized. When I open a program like Premiere and select 'Capture' I get half a window open and then the program completely feezes. If I unplug my camera, the program will work again but now the 'DEVICE IS OFFLINE' and if I try to re-start the camera again, the program won't regognize the device. The freezing thing also happens on WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER and NERO VISION (But they'll start to run again if I unplug it)

The weirdest thing is that I've been able to use the capture device without any probelm on two seperate occasions between bouts of it not working, which leads me to believe there's pobably a driver conflict of some kind, but I checked all my drivers and the only one that could probably give me grief (A logitech webcam driver) I completely uninstalled.

    Anyone have any sugestions?

Have you tried using WinDV? It's a simple DV transfer program that should work.

    And welcome to our forums.

Thanks for the suggetion and welcome! I tried to use WinDV and the same problem persisted: It ran for half a second, then froze, and when I unpluged my camera the program started working again. Grawr.

Could this be a firewire issue? My cable is kind of crappy and came with my card, so I'm leaning toward the fact that this could be the problem.

  5. I'd be willing to be it is NeroVision. Nero products have a very bad habit of hogging the DV source.

With any of your apps that allow you to control the camcorder (play, record, etc), see if you can.

Disable/uninstall Nero Vision to troubleshoot (you'd be amazed to how many people I've suggested this and found it work) - can't guarantee it, of course!
