I'm trying to capture from my mini DV camcorder. XP MCE SP3. I've used Intervideo WinDVD in the past (using firewire) with success (minor issue is Panasonic Camcorder records widescreen & the file was smushed a little- most people liked it b/c they look skinny). I DL'd the Corel 2010 WinDVD "free for 30 days". I don't remember if I got it to work or not.
2 weeks ago I captured video & got it converted & up to Utube. Last weekend nothing would work. I removed the 2010 WinDVD from add/remove last night. Intervideo Win DVD not only won't open but after a few min (of trying to cntl/alt/del with no luck) I get some sort of alarm from the PC tower itself. [This happened a couple of yrs ago while I was on the phone with HP Tech can't Support & he didn't know what it was but told me to shut down immediately w/ power button.] So I shut down. I had a couple of things going on (email & a search) & thought maybe too many processes at once so I tried after reboot to open ONLY the Intervideo WinDVD. After a few min (again trying cntl/alt/del with no luck) I got that alarm from the PC . So I shut down w/ power button & decided to wait till (Thurs) morning to mess w/ it. When I booted up yesterday I guess am I had no wallpaper but working icons. I got my wallpaper back.
I record short (dog agility runs) videos but it's an outdoor sport (until I ran a dog in Teacup & they fit everything inside) so I usually don't start taping until Oct. Then almost every weekend I tape until late March early April. Sometimes I only watch to see handling error or if a judge missed a call but sometimes I want to either email or burn a disc for a friend.
I get so much computer help from KRC (greyknight17.com) I put up a post on his site this am. The "teacup" dog isn't owned by me & the owner does everything she can to help me train, etc. I told her why she has not seen the video recorded last week yet (I had trouble with my capture software) and she gave me this new Dazzle Video Creator Plus HD & it comes with Pinnacle Studio HD ver. 14 software. The disc is supposed to be installed before doing anything else. BUT as I posted at KRC, I think I could have too many video programs installed & they are conflicting w/each other.
Video or burning software (not including players) installed (some may not work) on this computer:
AVS video converter 6, BurnAware free 2.3.7, Debut Video Capture, Express Burn Disc Burning S'ware,
Intervideo WINDVD Creator, muvee autoProducer3.5 magic moments HPD, muvee autoProducer unplugged HPD,
Prism Video converter, PS3 Video 9 2.25 (<no idea what that is), Sonic Record Now (A Windows component-may be audio only), SUPER (C) ver. 2010 bld. 37, Video pad video Editor (tried to use a couple weeks ago couldn't figure it out), Windows movie maker is not on the add/remove list but it's on the programs list & it quit working a while (months?)ago- not sure why).
I was waiting for a post from Kevin & remembered he sent me here the last time I got myself into a "Vidiot" mode and I was already registered so I'm back.
Please tell me what I probably need to remove (software wise). This Dazzle gizmo looks like it takes video from a VHS machine or something. The camera can connect with a USB 2.0 (I used to connect it to a Vista laptop that way) but this computer only sees it using the firewire. BUT maybe the software is better that what I've used. I'm afraid to load one more app. until I get advice. Thanks very much.
