I have a thirty-minute TV episode I want to convert from 200 megabyte downto 10 (or 20) megabyte, so I can share it with a long-distance friend with 40k dialup phone connection.
What's a user friendly (or even idiot-friendly) and easy way to get this done?
Thanks.

	what format is it in to start with?

 converting to a tiny .flv, like youtube videos might work, the riva encoder is free.

 a better way might be to burn it to cd and mail it. it wouldn't look like crap that way.

	The container is AVI, and the video codec is XviD MPEG-4. Yeah that's probably the best route, although I'd have to use a DVD since there are 30 of these episodes.Originally Posted by minidv2dvd

	Be sure to put the player on the DVD. Best if it can play from the DVD.Originally Posted by theavengRecommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

	Done. I experimented, and ultimately decided to go with VHS resolution which produced a blurry picture but with still-readable captions, and audio settings for FM quality. Total size == 20 megabytes. 4 episodes finished so far.

 video = 81 kbit/s (320x200)
 audio = 16 kbit/s (11 kilohertz peak)
 overhead=8 kbit/s
 total = 105 kbit/s

 CODEC = Windows Media 9. I'm thinking maybe I should have used the WM8 which supposedly makes a better picture, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

	Already cut framerate to 15 fps and audio to monoaural.

 I managed to get the videos downto 10 megabytes by halving the size to 160x120, but the various captions were unreadable, so I scrapped those files.
