Hi, I am experimenting with Video DJing and I want to be able to capture the output from my laptop and also view the output on a monitor.

I have a MacBook Pro with a DVI output, and today I bought the Canopus ADVC 110 unit. I'm not sure the best way to capture the video output from the MacBook Pro, what cables to use etc. I assume that the DV input (Firewire) would be the best quality input to use on the ADVC 110 unit (compared to the S-Video and Composite inputs) but I cant seem to find a DVI to Firewire type of cable. Does this even exist and would this work?

Ideally I would like to split the DVI output to

    a) a monitor or tv so I can watch what I'm doing while I'm DJing and
    b) capture the output (as Ive already mentioned!)

I will be using my PC to capture the video

Can anyone make any suggestions as to what my ideal setup would be with the gear that I have?

I don't think you will find a DVI to DV converter, especially not a cable. DV is a more of a storage format, while DVI is display format, similar to VGA, but digital, not analog, made to hook to a video display. Your choices are probably limited to S-video or composite out from the computer.

You may still be able to use the DVI for output to a monitor at the same time, but some computers may limit you to using VGA out when also using S-video out. Or worse, may only let you use one at a time. One of our Mac users may have better info.

I can move this thread to the Mac forum if you need more specifics on MacBook capabilities.
