I have tried burning DVD Folders off of my Hard-drive onto Verbatim DVD+Rs several times with both DVDFab Platinum (TS Folder) and IMGBurn (ISO). And halfway through the movie the DVD freezes. I looked on the back of the disc and there is pauses and discoloration in the burning sectors. The programs didn't report any errors on the process, is there a way to fix this problem? Is it the burner itself (Lite-On DVD-RW SOHW-1633S) of perhaps the writing is set too fast? I did not change any of the speed settings so, I'm not sure what to do. I have wasted several DVD+Rs already.

  2. Does the DVD folder play normally on your PC?

What kind of media are you using?

What burn speed? Maybe try a slower setting

    Have you upgraded your firmware?

Have you ever had a successful burn?

It doesn't play past the certain chapters with the gaps. Whether its a PC or a DVD Player it's the same.

    Verbatim DVD+R 4.7 GB

I went to the Lite-On Website and download a firmware upgrade and the following error happened (See Image). As you can see the drive is listed, even though it says it is not found? Maybe I'm doing that wrong as well.

I'm not sure what the speed was but it did finish in about 3-5 min.

I haven't burned anything with this drive other than CD-Rs and CD-RWs. But yes, both of those were successful.

  4. Actually my question on the playing the DVD folder pertains to playing on the hard drive, not the burnt DVD (i.e. playing the ripped VOB's). It's possible that the rip was defective (due to copy protection). If the VOB's have errors, it will burn the DVD with errors. If so, you might need to use anydvd or dvdfab

    Check your DMA settings

Do not run any other programs while burning.

If your Antivirus Software scan in the backgorund - turn it off.

my DMA settings are at Ultra DMA 2 - Ultra 33.

I have AVG virus software running, and Commodo Firewall running usually. I will attempt turning these off next time. But is that it?

Perhaps there's something still being overlooked.

Just a guess, but you may have a burner problem. The first photo shows some rings, but they would play back in the last 1/3 of the DVD. A DVD plays from inside to outside. That doesn't seem to be halfway through, but it could be.

AVG and Comodo shouldn't have any effect on burning. If they did, it would be at the first part of the burn. And they would let you know most times. DMA 2 is a bit odd for a burner. If it's a PATA (IDE) drive, DMA 4 is more common. Are you using a 80 conductor cable? It should be the same type as your hard drive.

Finishing up in 3-5 minutes tells me you are using 16X media at probably 16X burn speed. Normally that should cause no problems. But I would drop that down to 12X, just in case. ImgBurn can do that. It will only take a couple of more minutes to burn.

I use DVD - most times. But DVD+ should work about the same. Still, it doesn't hurt to try a different media. Some burners like one brand and type of media over another, even with good brands like Verbatim.
