Just bought Adobe Premiere Elements 7 so that I can edit video and put it on a DVD.

However, when I hit the DVD button at the end, it made the DVD and then it doesn't play on the DVD player. It does play in the computer.

Am I doing something wrong? The guy at Best Buy seemed to think that either my DVD player was old and/or not compatible with my DVD burner OR the DVD wasn't burned correctly.

I didn't want to have to go out and buy another DVD player but I don't know. Is there another way I can burn to a DVD? I think my other option was to put in on a file on my computer but then I don't know what to do with it from there.

    Please help.
    Thank you.

Have you tried any other home burned dvdrs on your dvd player? Does they work?
Have you tried with different dvd brands? and dvd-r and dvd+r? Some players are very picky and some just supports dvd-r.

It's impossible for us to say for sure based on what you told us. Any of the following could be to blame:

    1) You made a data disc and not a DVD video format disc.
    2) The media brand you used is crap and your player doesn't like it. Anything but Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden (only available via the internet in the USA) is junk in the USA.
    3) You didn't tell us that you burned to a re-writable disc (DVD+RW or DVD-RW) and your player doesn't like that format.
    4) You didn't tell us that you burned a DL disc (DVD+R DL or DVD-R DL) and your player doesn't like that format.
    5) You didn't finalize the disc that you burned.
    6) Your burner isn't operating correctly.
    7) Something in your DVD creation process is wrong.
8] Your DVD player is crap and although it should play the disc, it won't.
    9) You accidentally made a PAL format DVD and your DVD player is only able to play NTSC.
    10) You didn't make a DVD at all, which is why your standalone player won't play it.

There are probably others. These come to mind off hand.

Edit - Videohelp tries to be clever with 8 followed by a right parenthesis, so I had to change it to keep it from looking like a smiley face.

Ah yes. Forgot what Baldrick mentioned. The old "only plays DVD-R or DVD+R problem" on some older players.

Also, it could be that your player requires that DVD+R (and RW and DL) media be burned with what is called "bit setting" to play correctly. This is extremely rare to be a requirement on players made in the past 2 or so years, but it was somewhat common on older players.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try to answer some of these........

    1) You made a data disc and not a DVD video format disc.
not sure about that. Is there a way to figure it out?
    2) The media brand you used is crap and your player doesn't like it. Anything but Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden (only available via the internet in the USA) is junk in the USA.
I'd have to check on the brand at home
    3) You didn't tell us that you burned to a re-writable disc (DVD+RW or DVD-RW) and your player doesn't like that format.
    I burned it to a DVD-R disc
    4) You didn't tell us that you burned a DL disc (DVD+R DL or DVD-R DL) and your player doesn't like that format. nope
    5) You didn't finalize the disc that you burned.
I used Adobe Premiere Elements 7. When I used to use Pinnacle Studio (before I got Vista with my new computer) it used to "finalize". It didn't ask me. It just said it was done.
    6) Your burner isn't operating correctly. it should be, it's brand new
    7) Something in your DVD creation process is wrong. that's what I'm trying to figure out with someone who may know more about Adobe Elements 7
8] Your DVD player is crap and although it should play the disc, it won't. possible..... but when I used to do this with Pinnacle I had the same discs and the same DVD player. What's different is the software and the burner.
    9) You accidentally made a PAL format DVD and your DVD player is only able to play NTSC. nope, definitely NTSC
    10) You didn't make a DVD at all, which is why your standalone player won't play it. again, trying to figure that out.

Yes. The DVDs I previously burned with Pinnacle Studio work in the DVD player.

I don't use Premiere so someone with experience will have to help with any potential problems there.

You could put the disc in a PC. Do you see these folders?
    AUDIO_TS
    VIDEO_TS
If not, you definitely do not have a DVD video format disc.

Since your disc plays in your PC, it should be finalized, so we can throw out that possibility.

There is a folders that says VIDEO_TS then in it there are .VOB files

So what's strange is that I have another video that I did when I had Pinnacle and that has the same thing.... a VIDEO_TS file. I just put that one in my standalone DVD player and that works. Its the new one that doesn't.

Could it really be the burner?

Ok, may have something here........ looked closely at my burner and when I open the tray it says DVD+R DL

Does that mean I can only use DVD+R to record? It burned on the DVD-R DVD that I put in so I'm not sure what that may have to do with my DVD standalone but maybe????

  10. You could still have a DVD video format disc without the AUDIO_TS folder.
