  1. When I burn a DVD that's made in Sony DVD Architect using the 16:9 mode it plays in 16:9 on my computer so I know it is burned properly. I go to place it in my Xbox360 and other DVD player it does no auto expand to fill my 16:9 TV. (it is squished in a 4:3 image) If I put in a commerical DVD such as a movie from Blockbuster/Netflicks both my XBOX360 and dvd player auto expand to fill the 16:9 video over the entire screen automatically.

So why does this happen with my home made DVD's that are set to 16:9 and play fine on my computer? I know my players are set up correctly because the commerical dvd's work properly.

The DVD displays properly if I go into the TV settings and place it in wide mode, but I don't want to do this b/c when I play a commerical dvd I then need to change it back.

    So what's the key?

    Thanks

16:9 is set at two points in DVD authoring. The first is when you encode the video. The video must be encoded as 16:9 so that the appropriate headers are set in the stream. When the disc is authored it must be authored as 16:9 to ensure the IFO files correctly reflect the aspect ratio for playback.

Software players may check either of these points, hence some play it back correctly. However I suspect one of them is not right, or everything would play it back correctly.

  3. I was able to check the IFO file and below is what I got. Everything looks fine to me both 16:9. The menu is just an image from Sony DVD Architect and my video file is 1280 x 720 straight from my camera. But still no luck. Is there a way to double check the encoding of the video?
