Capture tv signal with mencoder

Hi,

Actually I record my signal tv with mencoder

ex: mencoder tv://$channel_number -ovc lavc -lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=$VBITRATE:vhq:keyint=100 -oac mp3lame -lameopts
vbr=0 -o OUT_PATH/NAME.avi

I would like to do the same but I would like to generate a mpg file not and avi file. How could I do this??

Using Mencoder, I've never been able to capture anything but blank frames in windows. I can't seem to set the tuner options properly and unfortunately for me, the defaults are low resolution pal and I live in NTSC land.

Try using vcodec=mpeg2video. I was able to capture blank frames with that and Gspot says that it's an mpg2 file. You'll probably want to change the audio codec also depending on your end use.
