Before you start guiding me to other threads, take a look at what I'd like to do and what I've tried thus far.
I have a handful of MPG video files transferred from a Sony HDD video camera and I'd like to edit them in Vegas 5. The MPEG2 Video 720x480 (4:3) 29.97fps 9100Kbps with a single Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch 448Kbps. When I try to import them into Vegas, I only get the video.
I've tried this:
-Converting the MPG files to AVI (Xvid) with a single 192 kbps stream in WinFF. I get a video file with a blank audio track.
-Splitting the MPG audio using TMPGenc, but I can only demux to get an AC3 file which I don't know how to do anything with, or saving as a WAV which produces an error message about not having the decoder
I'd really like to upgrade my Vegas to something newer which will probably have a much newer MainConcept MPEG Encoder coupled with it, but I can't afford that.
Can anyone help me out here?

Convert to dv-avi or lagarith avi using virtualdubmod or virtualdubmpeg2,
Load the mpeg2(you can use vob2mpg to create one mpg from the dvd)
Select video->compression and choose dv-avi or lagarith (install Cedocida DV Codec or lagarith codec first)
Select audio->full processing ( you might need to install the ac3 acm decompressor)
File->Save as avi. -
Wow, thanks so much, that actually does the trick. Now, if only there were a way to load all these files at once and then batch process them. I am familiar with Virtualdub's job control, but any way to load all the files in at once?Originally Posted by Baldrick

No, they come straight from the hard drive camera as MPG files.Originally Posted by Baldrick

I think there is a batch tool for virtualdubmpeg2 or virtualdubmod out there...google it.
